The destination for the day was Mainz at the confluence of the Rhine and Main rivers. The ride from Oberwessel was a bit over 50 km. Past Rudesheim the Rhine Valley is broader and the land flatter with crops on the valley bottom. The towns get a less cute and more real.It was actually a really nice day's ride. The bike route followed the river through the gorge but the meandered along dikes and through agricultural land as it got closer to Mainz.
