Beautiful day on the Moselle trail

The morning fog was clearing as I headed downriver. Online I had found an inexpensive Gasthaus about 70 km downriver in Ellenz and decided that it would be my destination for the day.  The weather warmed up nicely into the 70's and I had a breeze at my back.

The trail along the Moselle is often along the river, sometimes through the vineyards and occasionally along rural roads.  Today I seemed to be riding through miles of grapes.

The place I stayed was very quaint.  Run by a friendly asian lady and her husband, it was very homey.  After settling in, I biked back upriver a little ways and caught the ferry across to the quaint burg of Beilstein for a look at the castle and a glass of wine.  I had to make sure to be back to the ferry before the last crossing at 6 p.m.--otherwise I'd have to bike 25 km around on the road via the downriver bridge.

I couldn't believe the effort my host went to to make breakfast.  Even the grapes had been carefully sliced and arranged to make a happy little face.
