So now my trip was winding down. I had a few days left, it was drizzly and I needed to figure out what I was going to do: push on by bike or abandon all pretext of bike touring and just go see some stuff. I chose the latter.
After a quick review of the options, I decided to go to Nurnberg for a couple of nights before heading back to Frankfurt for the flight home.

Nurnberg was the site of one of the most important imperial palaces of the Holy Roman Empire. It was also the location that the Nazi's chose for their party meetings. You know those images of Hitler addressing seemingly endless throngs of cheering party members? They were filmed in Nurnberg. That was one reason it was also the location the Allies selected to hold the trials of Nazi war criminals.
The Allies pummeled the city during the war and it was reduced to ruble. But like Wurzburg, it has been largely rebuilt and is a lovely city.
