On down the Moselle
After a rest day in Trier, it was time to get going again. The Moselle River valley is sort of like Germany's Napa Valley--its all about the wine. And it turns out that late September is a good time to pedal this route because every little town along the way seems to be having its wine festival.
The festivals are held in the heart of the towns, are packed with locals and come complete with oom paa bands, brats, and lots of the local wine. I hit two such events on my first day on the Moselle. I was lucky to stay upright all the way to my night's lodging in Bernkastel, about 65 km down river from Trier.
