Well, Hallie and Anna have now experienced their first overnight train. And not just any old train--the Reunification Express train from Hanoi to Hue. Not a bad ride really. The 'soft berth' sleeper cars are not quite up to european standards but about what you'd expect from a communist-run rail system. I think it's pretty cool that the kids are becoming experienced travelers at such a young age!
Hue is the country's old imperial capital and is filled with lots of historic sites, including temples and tombs of past leaders--at least what's left after the heavy bombing it sustained during what the Vietnamese call the American war. Hue has a bit of a reputation for very aggressive touts--the folks who swarm the train station peddling hotels, tours, buses, etc. Some folks are put off by all that, even so most say that the place is not to be missed if you like history and food. We've got a couple of days here--we'll have a look about some of the ruins today and see what tomorrow brings.
