Bali Belly

Ah travel…it opens the mind to new ways of thinking. It helps us understand how we are viewed by others. It gives us a sense of how large and yet how small the world is. And from an intestinal microbe’s perspective, it brings a steady supply of new victims without immunity to their diabolical ways.

In Bali this phenomenon has a name, “Bali Belly”. Any conversation with a tourist here will eventually touch on the subject if given long enough. Even the locals seem to use the term.

Yesterday was my turn in the barrel. Today was Hallie’s. Courtney is looking a little green around the edges but still manages an appetite. Anna, the one who lives on Fanta and French fries has so far escaped unscathed--which is incredibly frustrating because it further reinforces her “junk food is just fine” attitude. After my go with Mr. Microbe yesterday, I’m about to sign up for the Coke and Pringles diet too.
