So, two days ago we were in the Amazon.
After leaving in a van to go to Manu though, we realized we had taken the wrong car and almost ended up on the Inca trail. Which I personally would not enjoy, because I dislike hiking. But finally the driver took us back which made me a little bit happy… Haha. So then we got in a van to go to the Amazon with our guide Edward, our cook Leo and our driver Santiago.
On the side of the road we stopped and drank hot chocolate which was a pleasant surprise, then got back into the car and drove on an extremely bumpy road until we entered the jungle. When we were almost there though, the tour guide stopped and we went looking for red birds called “Cock of the Rock.” We sat down on a perch area to look for the birds, but the guide was not happy with us just seeing one. No way. We must see plenty of birds. Birds galore. So we sat there for 45 minutes, which was not very bad. After a while though we got up and walked around too look for birds from a different perspective. So we saw a lot of birds.
After that we got to the lodge which was cozy and niceJ. Also, there was popcorn which made it even better. I love popcorn. Popcorn is my love. Especially Amazonian popcorn. It tastes extra good out there. So the next day at like, 6 o’ clock, we got in the van again and drove down to a port where we got on a boat to take us to the next lodge, which was powerless. No power. None. So when we got there the guide was like “Hey guys let us go on a long hike!” and Mom was like “Anna it shall be 20 minutes!” and I said “Can I nap first?” and she was like “Nope!” So then we went on a hike in the jungle and we learned a lot of information on Peruvian plants. And my dad was very interested in a certain plant called ‘the walking palm’ which is a palm tree that moves up to 2 ½ feet per year and Dad was like “GENIUS!!!!!” And mom was like hey… it’s been over an hour… and yeah. But I learned a lot. So I guess I’m kinda a biologist now. Or something.
Then that night we went on a night walk and saw several of the “largest rodents in the world” called a capybara swimming in the water which I thought was AWESOME because when I was little I wanted a pet rodent more than anything. Then on our way back, we were halfway there in the dark when our guide left us because he had to turn around and get his knife machete thing. So we walked the rest of the way, alone, in the dark which was creepy but very fun. The next day we went back to the first lodge, then after that drove to Pisac, a little town in the Sacred Valley and our last stop before Lima and our flight home. It was over all a very nice tour. I enjoyed it.
