We left the tropics of Budapest to board our train and realized it had only gotten hotter due to a broken air con. Luckily, Court went in search of the other cars and found they were much cooler and scouted out some new seats for us.Upon arrival in Vienna, however, we all had to zip up what jackets we had and were reminded of home in Olympia with blustery rain. After purchasing our onward tix to Venice, we headed out into the cold unknown and finally found our apartment which we quickly dubbed “Grandma’s Basement” due to its musty smell and cute little knick knacks including a happy sunflower.
We took advantage of the public transport system again and rode the tram around to get our bearings ending up by the opera district. A cozy coffee house from days gone by was found and the girls had chocolate cake (which here is on the dry side) and warmed up. On our journey in, Hal spotted an English movie theatre featuring the new Harry Potter flick, “The Half Blood Prince.” We went to check it out and spontaneously bought tix for the last show. It was a small little theatre, very classic and we all enjoyed it immensely. Except Hal thought Mom laughed to loud at the jokes and told her to “cover her mouth.”
Today we hope to explore the city under dryer conditions and perhaps take in a museum or palace. To kick it off though, we’ll start with Mass at a church even though we are not Catholic but the music is supposed to be divine and a good experience for the girls.
