A number of weeks ago I asked the kids what they missed about our trip to Vietnam.
Hallie’s answer: "I miss the chaos of the streets, the always present suspicion that the world is incomprehensively large, and all the curious details and constant unfamiliarity. However, I’m glad to be home. I like home."
Anna said she missed trying new restaraunts every day, exploring and spending all our time together. And, of course, getting to watch Disney channel in the hotels.
The kids both talked about how, even though it went fast, it seemed like we had more than 5 weeks worth of memories from our trip. They noted that even though its been 3 months since we returned, we've fallen back into our day-to-day routine where the days and weeks run together and are less memorable. They mentioned that looking back over the year, they only remembered the times that were out-of-the-ordinary. That says something about the value of travel and getting out of one's routine.
For Courtney and I the trip was a chance to go exploring with the kids, spend time together. and introduce them to the great big world. It must have been a success because we've already began planning the next segment of our journey!
