Traveling by bike in Germany

So it's 2:15 a.m. on a Thursday and I can't sleep. I'm in a Frankfurt hotel, one of those mod places with a mono color design scheme, in this case an intense aquamarine that's found everywhere from the staff's uniform to the carpet in the lobby. How did I get here?

Well it wasn't easy, but that part is boring. Suffice it to say you should never fly Condor Airlines.

I'm here to do some bike touring. A few months ago I decided that I needed some time off work to travel. Exploring someplace by bike seemed like just the ticket. But where? Someplace I hadn't been with good biking routes and scenic vistas. Someplace with decent food and drink and easy transportation connections.

So after some quick research I decided that Germany was the place for me. I'd fly into Frankfurt and catch a train to the western border with France and then ride back east along a string of designated bike routes until I ran into the Czech border.

So today's plan is to get from Frankfurt to Saarbrucken by train to begin the first leg of my journey riding down the Saar River.
